Here you can find troubleshooting tips and helpful information regarding your Paparte/IDW system. Use the search bar to find an issue or a topic. Using relevant keywords like "error" or "printer" would help you find the answer you need faster

  • How do I get rid of the “Software update required”/“Disk access error during system initialization, call InScribe” error message?"
    If you have Print Manager, please close and re-launch the application and see if an auto-update occurs. If it does, the error message should go away when you try to print the job again. If the error persists, call InScribe for assistance. If you do not have Print Manager, close any error window pertaining to InScribe. Go to dealers.inscribe.com and log in using your InScribe customer number and issued password. If you do not have this information, call InScribe. Place your cursor over the Dealers drop-down menu, bring it over to Dealer Support, then click Downloads. On the left-hand side of the page, you will see Your Software Downloads. There should be a download displayed containing your dealer number and a recent date. If you don’t see a download containing the most recent date, call InScribe for assistance. If there are multiple downloads present, choose the one with the most recent date. Click once on the link and run the download. If Windows tries to prevent the program from downloading, find the option to run anyway by either selecting More Info or More Options. Once the Win-zip box appears, select Unzip. A Number of Files Unzip window will appear. Select OK and then close the Win-zip box. You may also close the web browser and restart Legacy InScribe. If this does not fix the issue, call InScribe for assistance.

  • What does “Error – Can’t access counter 101” mean and how can I get rid of it?
    This error means that the counter is not being detected. Check and see if your counter is connected. If it’s not, connect it. If your counter is connected, go to Devices and Printers on your computer. To get to Devices and Printers, click the upward facing arrow (^) on the bottom right corner of your screen. Click on the USB icon that safely removes hardware and ejects media. Then, click Open Devices and Printers. The option for devices and printers will appear as a search result. Click to open it. A window listing the devices your computer is equipped with will appear. Make sure your counter is being shown as a “USB Host Adapter for 1-Wire Network Using WinUSB” device in the control panel. The “USB Host Adapter for 1-Wire Network Using WinUSB” should appear under Unspecified. If it is not listed, reinsert the counter or move it to a different port on your computer. If it still doesn’t show up, call InScribe for assistance.
  • I have an “Error – Counter 104 (ROM Mismatch)” error. What does it mean?
    This error means that the configuration installed on your system does not match the counter being used. This typically happens when our customers own multiple systems. In some cases, it may be because a new counter was issued or a new PC is being used. If you see this error, call InScribe for assistance.

  • How do I install System Software disks?
    Close any programs that are running. In order to install the software, you may need to be logged in as an administrator. Insert the disc. In Windows 8 and 10, click the box that appears in the top right corner of your screen. Then click Run setup.exe and then click Allow. In Windows 7 and Vista, click Run setup.exe and then click Allow or Yes. In Windows XP, the installation program will automatically launch. Click Next. Then choose your scanner from the list, or choose Other or None. Click Next and Install the software. If the License Agreement appears, click “I accept the terms in the License Agreement, Install”. If it doesn’t, click Next, Repair and Repair. In Windows 8, 10 and XP, click Finish. In Windows 7 and Vista, click Install and Finish. Connect the counter to any available USB port. If the counter was already connected, you do not need to reinsert it. If the Found New Hardware wizard appears, click Next and Finish. If a “1-Wire Net Port Selection” window appears, click Auto-Detect. Then click OK and then click Yes. Finally, click Finish. If a “Default 1-Wire Network Settings” window appears, close it by clicking the red X in the upper right corner. Then click Finish. Restart your computer once the installation is complete.
  • How do I install an External Hard Drive?
    Plug the external hard drive into any available USB port on your computer. The hard drive will need to stay plugged into this port. There may be a slight delay while your computer installs the drivers for the drive. Your virus protection may cause a window to pop up asking if you would like to allow the program to make changes on your computer. Allow the program to do so. For Windows 10 and 8.1, click “Choose what happens with removable drives”. Then click “Open folder to view files”. For Windows 7, when the AutoPlay window appears, click “Open folder to view files”. Double-click setup.exe or setup. Then click Yes to give the installer permission to start. Click Next when the Welcome Wizard appears. Then check the box next to the software components you want to install. If it’s a brand new installation, leave both options checked. Then click Next. The installation will begin. Several windows may appear and disappear during the installation. Actual installation times will vary by system. If you are installing software for the first time on your computer, a Maxim Integrated Products window may appear partway through the installation. Click Install to continue. When prompted, click Finish. This will conclude the installation. Please remember to leave the external hard drive plugged in, as the software does not work without it. If you have a configuration disc, install that next.
  • How do I install System Configuration discs?
    Insert the System Configuration Disc in the DVD drive. For Windows 10 and 8.1, if a “choose what happens with removable drives” message appears, ignore it. For Windows 7, if an AutoPlay window appears, close it. Open InScribe Legacy Software by double-clicking the the InScribe icon on your desktop. You should see a black window appear. This will run the disc. When it is complete, the window will go away. The “Number of printers available” message will appear. Click OK. If a Counter101 error message appears, remove the counter and reinsert it into the same USB port. Close and re-open InScribe Legacy Software. If this does not resolve the issue, plug the counter into a different USB port and try again A box asking you to type or select the name of a job will appear. Type “install” and click OK. Legacy will ask you if you want to create this job. Click Yes. InScribe Legacy Software will open. Once you’re in the program, the installation is complete.
  • How do I download a System Configuration Update online?
    Go to dealers.inscribe.com and log in using your InScribe customer number and issued password. If you do not have this information, call InScribe. Place your cursor over the Dealers drop-down menu, bring it over to Dealer Support, and then click Downloads. On the left-hand side of the page, you will see Your Software Downloads.   • How do I install art (Custom/State/Batch discs)?
    To install your “art” disc(s), complete these steps. Please note that we recommend that you install software Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EST. If you have any questions, please call InScribe customer Support Monday – Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. Click the InScribe icon to open InScribe Legacy Software. Click Tools and select Designs Management. Insert the Art disc into the DVD drive. Click “Copy a Designs on Demand CD to the hard drive” and click OK. When the “# files copied” message appears, the installation is complete. Click OK. If there are additional discs, repeat these steps until all of them have been installed. Click the X in the upper right corner of the screen to exit InScribe Legacy Software.
  • How do I install Paparte flash drives?
    Insert the flash drive into an available USB port. For Windows 10 and 8.1, click “Choose what happens with removable drives”. Then click Open folder to view files. For Windows 7, when the AutoPlay window opens, click Open folder to view files. Double-click setup.exe or setup. Then click Yes to give the installer permission to start. Click Next when the Welcome wizard appears. Check the box next to the software components you want to install. If it’s a brand new installation, leave all options checked. Click Next. The installation will begin. Several windows may appear and disappear during the installation. Actual installation times will vary by system. When prompted, click Finish. Then open InScribe Legacy Software. A window displaying a Printer Available message will appear. Click OK. Another window displaying “Type or select the name of an existing job, or type the name of a new job” will appear. Type in “install” and click OK. A message stating that the job doesn’t exist and asking if you would like to create it will appear. Click Yes. Legacy will open. Click Tools and select Designs Management. On the pop up, click Upload Designs on Demand update. The files will begin to be extracted. You may see an “InScribe not responding” message at the top of your screen. This is normal. Do not remove the disc or close the program. When the “# files copied” message appears, the installation is complete. Click OK, then click the X in the upper right hand corner of the screen to exit Legacy. If you have multiple flash drives, repeat these steps.
  • Can I set up my printer wirelessly?
    Although the printers we have provided have the capability of being used via Wi-Fi, our software works best with a wired connection. Please use the provided USB cord to connect your printer to your InScribe computer.
  • How do I check ink levels on my printer?
    Click the upward facing arrow (^) on the bottom right corner of your screen. Click on the USB icon that safely removes hardware and ejects media. Then click Open Devices and Printers. Once the Devices and Printers window appears, right click on the printer you are working with and select Printing Preferences. Click the Maintenance tab. On banner printers, this will say Utilities. In the Maintenance tab, click View Printer Status in the lower right-hand corner. On Epson printers, this button will say Epson Status Monitor. This will show ink levels and provide the printer’s current status.
  • How do I clean my printer?
    Click the upward facing arrow (^) on the bottom right corner of your screen. Click on the USB icon that safely removes hardware and ejects media. Then click Open Devices and Printers. Once the Devices and Printers window appears, right click on the printer you are working with and select Printing Preferences. Click the Maintenance tab. On banner printers, this will say Utilities. Click Cleaning. A Print Head Cleaning window will pop up. Make sure the box for All Colors is selected. Then click Execute. A window saying “Do not start another operation until the cleaning has finished” will pop up. Click OK. On the Nozzle Check window, click Print Check Pattern. Another window saying “Do not start another operation until the cleaning has finished” will pop up. This will disappear after the cleaning is finished. You do not have to press OK. Then a Pattern Check window will appear. When your cleaning has completed, compare the pattern that has printed out to the one on the Pattern Check window. If your pattern looks like the one on the left, you may use your printer immediately. Click Exit. If your pattern looks like the one on the right, follow the instructions on the screen to clean your printer. Once your printed pattern matches the one on the left, you may use your printer immediately. Click Exit.
  • What does “Counter – 302 error – out of paper code” (Print Manager error) and/or “Printing halted enter new paper code” (InScribe Legacy Software) mean?
    These errors mean that you are out of paper code and will not be able to print until a new one is entered. Locate the last paper code issued to you with your last supply order and follow the instructions to enter it. If your paper code is entered and you are still getting an error that your computer can’t locate the paper code, call InScribe for assistance.
  • How do I enter paper code?
    Before entering your paper code, make sure your counter is connected and your printer(s) are connected and powered on. Once you’ve completed these instructions, you are authorized to print the products listed on the accompanying InScribe Packing List. Double-click the InScribe icon on your desktop. When the “#printers available” message appears, click OK. Type “install” and click OK. This will open a job named Install that you can use for this installation. Click yes, and then InScribe Legacy Software will open. Click Tools and select Design Management. Click Enter New Paper Code and click OK. Type your four-digit Paper Order Number and click OK. Type your 20-character Paper Code and press the Enter key. If an Invalid code message appears, click OK and repeat steps 4-6 for this paper code. If not, continue to step 7. When the “Code Accepted, Thank You” message appears, click OK and exit InScribe Legacy Software.
  • What is paper code?
    Paper code is required to print all Paparte and InScribe products. A paper code is issued with each paper or supply order. The paper code enables you to print the quantity of invitations, banners or gifts purchased. Each time you print through the Print Manager or InScribe Legacy Software, paper code is deducted. Paper code is regulated by your counter, so be sure that it is always connected to your InScribe Computer.
